Dr. Travlos has teaching and research interests in the areas of Corporate    Finance, Financial Analysis, Financial Markets, Banking, Mergers and Acquisitions. Prior to ALBA he taught at Boston College, City University of New York (Baruch College), New York University (L. Stern School of Business) and University of Piraeus (1990-1998), where he served as Chairman of the Department of Banking and Financial Management (1993-1997) and MSc Director (1997-1998). Also, he held the position of Distinguished Senior Research Fellow at Cardiff Business School (U.K.), 1998-2007.

Dr Travlos' research has been published in leading academic journals such as Journal of Finance; Journal of Accounting Research; Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis; Financial Management; Journal of Financial Research; Pacific-Basin Finance Journal;  European Financial Management; Managerial and Decision Economics; Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance; Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance; Journal of Multinational Financial Management; Multinational Finance Journal; Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics; Journal of Applied Financial Economics; Corporate Review, Icfai University Journal of Corporate Governance, etc. The research findings of Dr. Travlos have been cited widely in numerous international academic journals and text-books, while managerial implications of his research have appeared in the Harvard Business Review, and in the Bowne Review for CFOs & Investment Bankers. Several of his published papers have been included in international books of readings, and are cited in numerous international text books.

In 2008 Dr. Travlos’ was recognized as one of the “most contributing” authors in the Journal of Finance, “the gold standard in academic finance literature”, over its six decades of existence. Among the 3,276 authors, worldwide, who have published in the Journal of Finance, Dr. Travlos, ranks 63rd for the period 1946-2005, with nine appearances, and 39th for the sub period 1976-2005. Regarding Europe, Dr. Travlos ranks 1st among the JF authors employed by a European academic institution (See, Jean L. Heck and Philip L. In 2005 Dr. Travlos achieved another significant International Academic Distinction; He is the only Professor of a Greek academic institution to be included in the list of the 332 most prolific authors who, among 17,573 authors worldwide, have published their work in the top seven (7) Finance Journals over the last fifty years (1953-2002).  (See, Jean L. His published article 'Corporate Takeovers Bids, Methods of Payment and Bidding Firms' Stock Returns (Journal of Finance, 1987) was included in 1994 in the list of the twenty most influential published papers in Finance. Other published papers have been voted as the best papers appeared in the associated journals. He serves on the editorial Board of several international academic journals and has served as President/Chairman of several international academic Associations and Conferences. His research agenda includes Mergers and Acquisitions, Executive Compensation, Corporate Governance, Corporate Control, Dividend Policy, Ownership Structure, International Acquisitions, Leveraged Buyouts, Capital Restructuring and Raising New Capital.

He has developed an electronic data base of the Athens Stock Exchange stock data (funded by the Commercial Bank of Greece) and has authored the monograph Athens Stock Exchange: Data Base for the Athens Stock Exchange Stocks and Risk-Return Characteristics of Stocks in the Period 1981-1990.

He is a finance consultant and has served on the Board of Directors of several national and international firms. He was a member of the Board of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (2004-2009) and a member of the Hellenic Competition Commission (2009-2012). Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Athens International Airport S.A. Also, he serves on the Board of Directors of Unibios S.A. and he is the Vice-Chairman of Transparency International-Hellas, Member of the Academic Committee of the Hellenic Banks Association, and Member of ActionAid Hellas.
